The Art Car has been a trans-formative experience! After years of wearing black with cool colored docs, I have broken out into living color! So…..I bought a HOT pink dress (from tar jay! <G>)and a cool coat from a vintage shop
The experience of driving an art car is exhilarating. Working on it was back breaking but the fun of having kids wave at you and teens actually look up from their cell phones and smile as they get off the bus is amazing.

Running errands has NEVER been so fun! I came out from the grocery today to find someone madly taking photos. She apologized and I said “No, that’s why we do it. So people will look and enjoy.”

I a wrote book on quilting years ago and learned a hard lesson on copyright. I signed away mine in the rush to be published. Now the company has published it with no other payment to me and not even the COURTESY to tell me when it comes out in another country and another language (last I checked: English metric, America Imperial, in Japanese, in German, in Austrailia by another publishers name and in Cyrillic Russian) To top it off, the book has an error that the publisher will not fix on the amount of fabric to buy for one project. It’s easier for the publisher to leave it unfixed. Being so royally screwed , has made me perhaps TOO proprietary. I rarely offer my work to auctions and worry about having detailed photos on the web.

After years of being so proprietary over my work, it is freeing to offer something to public with no expectation except smiles. The Art Car has done that!!

When it Rains It Pours

Wednesday, January 16th, 2008

Night before last I did a huge pour of sewing stuff for the car. I used a clear resin and covered scissors, pincushions and other notions. I  put a rush on because I wanted to see Bonnie Blues art car talk at WIVLA (Women in the Visual and Literay Arts) and I wanted to put more stuff on my car and drive it to the meeting that Kay Cox invited me to. Of course the moment the resin dried, it began to rain for the first time this year in Houston. I got ready for the meeting that afternoon and the light rain turned the Clear Lake area into Gridlock. I drove for an hour and got about 3 miles from home before turning back.
Here is some of the stuff I poured
